Invitation to Apply for Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow positions

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following posts.

The Directorate of Human Resources at Makerere University requires a letter of application alongside the following: Curriculum Vitae, Certificates and Transcripts (3 copies each set) giving full details of applicants’ education, qualifications, work experience, present salary and naming three referees, plus their postal addresses. Applicants should make sure that at least two references are in by the closing date.

Positions Open:

a)         Research Fellow (3)

                  Qualifications:         

(i)        A PhD                        

(ii)       A minimum of three (3) years of proven research                                         

(iii)      A minimum of three (3) refereed publications                                   

 

Areas of Specialization:

  • Political Economy: Agrarian Studies; Economic Theory and History; Late Industrialization; International Political Economy
  • Political Theory: modern and pre-modern; Western and non-Western Comparative
  • History, with a specialization in Pre-Colonial African and Indian Ocean History and/or Historiography and Historical Methods
  • Literary and Cultural Studies: World and African literatures; social and cultural anthropology; post-colonial studies.

 

  Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Publish at least one article a year;
  2. Teach at least two MISR graduate courses annually, and participate in the 3rd year PhD colloquium;
  3. Participate in a MISR core research project;
  4. Give at least one research seminar a year;
  5. Prepare and submit an annual activity report;
  6. Actively participate in service to the Institute and University;
  7. Participate in workshops run by the Institute;
  8. Supervision of Students to completion;
  9. Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director.

 

 Tenure of appointment:

 Five (5) years renewable contract subject to satisfactory performance following the appraisal.

 b)         Senior Research Fellow   (1)

                        Qualifications:        

                        (i)        A PhD

                        (ii)       A minimum of six (6) new publications in refereed journals

                        (iii)      A minimum of 5 years of proven research

     (v)       Contribution to the intellectual life in the areas of specialization

      

  Areas of Specialization:

  • Political Economy: Agrarian Studies; Economic Theory and History; Late Industrialization; International Political Economy
  • Political Theory: modern and pre-modern; Western and non-Western Comparative
  • History, with a specialization in Pre-Colonial African and Indian Ocean History and/or Historiography and Historical Methods
  • Literary and Cultural Studies: World and African literatures; social and cultural anthropology; post-colonial studies.

  5. Participate in planning and carrying out MISR core research projects;
  6. Participate in writing at least one policy brief annually in the area of specialization;
  7. Prepare and submit an annual activity report;
  8. Actively participate in service to the Institute and University;
  9. Participate in workshops run by the Institute;
  10. Supervision of Students to completion;
  11. Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director.
