Prof. Mahmood Mamdani attends CODESRIA’s 14th General Assembly in Dakar, Senegal

Prof. Mahmood Mamdani  recently represented MISR at CODESRIA’s 14th General Assembly in Dakar, June 8 to 12, 2015. He chaired a plenary on Africa in the New Century and participated in a panel on Transitional Justice. The General Assembly elected Dzodzi Tsikata of Ghana as the new President and Nkolo Foe of Cameroun as the Vice President.

Stella Nyanzi Participates in Workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Lawfare in Africa

Dr. Stella Nyanzi is participating in the 'Workshop on Sexual and Reproductive Rights Lawfare in Africa' on 14th - 17th May 2015 at the University of Pretoria. The workshop that is jointly organised by the Center for Human Rights at University of Pretoria and the CMI Centre on Law and Social Transformation at University of Bergen brings together scholars from different African countries for roundtable discussions about the similarities and differences in how the dynamics among sexual andreproductive rights are unfolding across the continent.

Stella Nyanzi Receives Erasmus Mundus Scholar Scholarship

Dr. Stella Nyanzi has received the Erasmus Mundus Scholar Scholarship that will facilitate her to participate in the tropEd Masters of Science Programme in International Health for the 2014/2015 academic year. Underthis scholarship, she will be based at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT)
in Amsterdam - where she will give lectures, present classes as part of set courses, engage with graduate students, as well as read and write up her research during May and June 2015.

Giuliano Martiniello Publishes, "Food Sovereignty as praxis: rethinking the food question in Uganda"

Dr. Giuliano Martiniello has published an article entitled "Food Sovereignty as praxis: rethinking the food question in Uganda" in the Third World Quarterly Journal. The article critically reflects upon conceptual and analytical questions that affect the practical implementation of food sovereignty in Uganda, a country often labelled as the potential breadbasket of Africa.

Exhibiting our Publications at the 2015 Kampala International Book Fair

"Books Take you Places" was the theme of the 2015 Kampala International Book Fair that took place from 22-24 April, 2015 at the Uganda National Cultural Center grounds.  As an invited exhibitor, this was an opportunity that MISR used to showcase and sell some of its scholarly publications. Most encouraging for us was the effort of the Uganda Reproduction Services Bureau (URSB) to arrest anyone caught in the act of copyright infringement.
