Arab Diasporas in Geopolitical SpacesABSTRACT
This article argues that imperial geopolitical contestations were important for the transnational existence of Muslim diasporas of Djibouti during the interwar years (1919-1939). The author examines global geopolitical processes as part of his analysis of diasporic formation in the region. Contemporary studies of the Indian Ocean have viewed diasporas as creating connections between Oceanic systems and focused on discourses, networks, genealogy and cosmopolitanism to explain transnational existence. Social Reproduction and the Agrarian Question of Women's Labour in IndiaUsing a social reproduction framework, this article explores how reproduction of rural working class households is rearticulated to capitalist production in India. Our analysis of the conditions in India reveals that the interaction of three institutions - market, state and household - has imposed the burden of reproduction on women. In turn, women's work is dependent on private and common lands. Journal Name: Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy Associated Authors: Sirisha C. Naidu Main Author: Lyn Ossome Year: 2016 |

The MISR Review No.1Begun in 2012, the doctoral program in Social Studies at the Makerere Institute of Social Research (MISR) is driven by the conviction that key to research is formulating the problem of research. Given that our objective was to transform MISR from a consultancy into a research unit, we summed up the difference in a sentence: in a consultancy, the client defines the question; in a research unit, the question is the prerogative and responsibility of the researcher.
