Dr. Stella Nyanzi has been awarded a post-doctoral grant of the Carnegie Next Generation of African Academics (NGAA) II 2013-2016 through the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training at Makerere University. With support from this grant, she will be conducting research entitled "Asserting Sovereignty amidst International Pressure to Protect Human Rights: Ethnographic Research about Re-criminalizing Homosexuality in
Uganda".

Dr. Stella Nyanzi is presenting a paper entitled “The Impact of Religion on Criminalization of Sexual Minorities” at the African Scholars’ Theological Consultation on Human Sexuality, Religion and Equality that is being held at Pietermaritzburg in South Africa from 28th – 31st August 2014. Sponsored by the World Council of Churches and Horizons Foundation the consultation is organized by Political Research Associates and hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Religion, Philosophy and Classics.

Phillip Oketcho, a MISR PhD Fellow, has published a book “Language policy and education in Uganda.” It explores the various policies and language debates in Uganda’s educational system. It questions the role of the government in enacting and enforcing these policies against that of civil society. In addition, the book interrogates why particular language policies have been adopted at specific historical moments and the waves of transformations triggered by such policy changes.

Dr. Stella Nyanzi has been awarded the Africa Peacebuilding Network’s
Research Grant for 2014 from the Social Science Research Council. With
support from this grant, she will be conducting ethnographic research
entitled “Queerying Peace-Building after the Sexual Violence of War:
Gendered Gaps in Implementing UNSCRs 1325 and 1820’.

Dr. Stella Nyanzi has published an article entitled "The Paradoxical Geopolitics of Recriminalizing Homosexuality in Uganda: One of Three Ugly Sisters' in the Sexuality Policy Watch Newsletter No. 14 that is edited by Sonia Correa and Akshay Khanna.

The edited volume is entitled "Putting the Law in its Place - Analyses of Recent Develops in Law Relating to Same-Sex Desire in India and Uganda" and is jointly produced by Sexuality Policy Watch and the Institute of Development Studies' programme on Sexuality and Development.

Dr. Stella Nyanzi is moderating a panel discussion entitled "CURRENT ENGAGEMENTS TO CHALLENGE UGANDA's ANTI-HOMOSEXUALITY ACT 2014" on 27th June 2014 starting at 11:00AM at Hotel Africana. The panelists are three lawyers  involved in litigation for sexual minorities in Uganda including:

Dr. Stella Nyanzi has published a chapter entitled "Queering Queer Africa'
in the edited volume "RECLAIMING AFRKIAN: QUEER PERSPECTIVES ON SEXUAL AND
GENDER IDENTITIES" that is compiled by Zethu Matebeni and published by
Modjaji Books and Iranti. The book will be launched on 31st May 2014 at
the University of Cape Town.
