A recent workshop held at the AU headquarters and attended by with Simon Omaada Esibo (PHD Student) on behalf of MISR, could have presented a research opportunity (on the subject of Early Warning for Peace and Security) for the Institute.
Prof. Mahmood Mamdani on a lecture tour in China, USA and UK
Professor Mahmood Mamdani will be on a lecture tour in: Hangzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai (China) - 17 - 28 April 2015; Havard Law School (USA); and the University of Sussex (UK) until 11 May, 2015.
Stella Nyanzi presents research at Uppsala University
Stella Nyanzi is presenting a paper entitled "The Costs of LGBTIQ Activism in Africa: A Case Study of Uganda" at the "Sexuality/ies?" International Symposium at the University of Uppsala on 9th April 2015. The symposium is organised by the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology as well as the Uppsala Forum for African Studies.
She also presented at paper entitled "Sexuality, Activism and Social Research" at the Departmental Seminar of the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology at Uppsala University.
Stella Nyanzi publishes "The Social-Political Dynamics of Anti-Homosexuality Legislation in Uganda"
Dr. Stella Nyanzi has published a co-authored article entitled "The Social-Political Dynamics of Anti-Homosexuality Legislation in Uganda" in the African feminist journal called AGENDA. Co-written with Andrew Karamagi of the School of Law at Makerere University, the article reviews historical developments of the anti-homosexuality laws in Uganda, and then analyses how diverse members of the executive, legislature and judiciary mobilised and deployed these legislative processes to advance their political careers within this hybrid regime.
Semeneh Ayalew Asfaw admitted to the 2015-2016 cohort of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS)
Semeneh Ayalew Asfaw, 4th year PhD student at MISR has been admitted to the 2015-2016 cohort of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS). He joins a prestigious group of over 100 African faculty who have taken part in the program since its inception in February 2009.
