Stella Nyanzi on Academic Committee of (QP5) the Fifth International Queering Paradigms Conference: “Queering Narratives of Modernity” at FLACSO, Ecuador during 20th – 22nd February 2014.

Dr. Stella Nyanzi joined the Academic Committee of QP5 – the Fifth International Queering Paradigms Conference that is entitled ‘Queering Narratives of Modernity’. The QP5 will be held at the Latin American University of Social Sciences (FLACSO) in Quito - Ecuador, the Andes between 20th and 22nd February 2014.

Stella Nyanzi is presenting a paper entitled ‘“How do I show the Doctor the sores in my anus?” Self-reported Challenges of MSM who use public health facilities in Uganda’ at the 1st African Conference on Key Populations in the HIV Epidemic which is running from 19th to 21st August 2013 at the Kunduchi Beach Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This conference is jointly organized by Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences,  University of Oslo and UNAIDS and has 150 delegates from 22 countries. Dr. Stella Nyanzi has been awarded the All Africa House Fellowship for 2013, to be held at the University of Cape Town. During the fellowship period, she will be hosted by Dr. Robert Mattes (http://www.cssr.uct.ac.za/researchers/mattes) of Democracy in Africa Research Unit, Centre for Social Science Research (http://www.cssr.uct.ac.za/daru).

The 50th Anniversary of Uganda’s state Independence – a View from Society

(Text of a talk at the dinner to celebrate the 56th anniversary of Imamat Day,– Serena Hotel – 18thJuly, 2013)

This is a time for anniversaries.  This year, we have observed two anniversaries in the 50s this year: the anniversary to mark the ascension of H.H. the Aga Khan, and the independence of Uganda.  I shall focus on the latter event in these remarks.
