Lawrence Ocen, 4th year PhD student at MISR has been admitted to the 2015-2016 cohort of the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars Program (UMAPS). He joins a prestigious group of over 100 African faculty who have taken part in the program since its inception in February 2009.

The UMAPS program takes place at the University of Michigan (U-M) Ann Arbor campus. It provides access to U-M research libraries and facilities, housing, health insurance and stipend to cover living expenses. The 2015-2016 program is scheduled to begin with a mandatory week-long orientation in late August, 2015 and finish at the end of February, 2016.

One of the most valued parts of the program according to UMAPS alumni is that students are paired with a University of Michigan faculty member who serves as a mentor during one’s time in Ann Arbor.
