Lyn Ossome is Associate Professor and Director of MISR, and previously was Associate Professor of Political Studies at Wits University, Senior Research Fellow at the Makerere Institute of Social Research, Makerere University, and Visiting Presidential Professor at Yale University. Her books include Gender, Ethnicity, and Violence in Kenya’s Transitions to Democracy: States of Violence (2018), the co-edited volume Labour Questions in the Global South (2021), and the forthcoming monograph titled Democracy’s Subjections: Colonial Modernity and the Gendered Subject of Violence. She serves on numerous boards including editorial for the journals Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Contemporary African Studies, and Feminist Africa; the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE), and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Her specializations are in the fields of feminist political economy and feminist political theory, with research interest in gendered labour, land and agrarian questions, the modern state, and the political economy of gendered violence.
