Stella Nyanzi will present two posters at the 19th International AIDS Conference scheduled for 22nd - 27th July 2012 in Washington DC, USA (for details see http://www.aids2012.org/Default.aspx?pageId=305). The first poster is entitled Double Death by HIV/AIDS and Homophobia among MSM Communities in Kampala, Uganda and will be discussed on Tuesday 24th July 2012 (see attached abstract). Based on ethnographic data from four MSM who died in Kampala from AIDS-related illness, suicide and murder by a hammer, the paper discusses the impact of homophobia in the everyday lives of same-sex loving men in Uganda. Specific attention is paid to analysing access to healthcare, medical commodities and support networks. The second poster is entitled Examining Diversities and Intersections of Homosexual Communities in Contemporary Uganda and will be discussed on Thursday 26th July 2012 (see attached abstract). Drawing from a combination of qualitative interviews, focus group discussions and organisation analysis the paper discusses the heterogeneity of local communities of individuals who choose non-heteronormative sexual orientations and gender identities in Uganda.
